Patricia "Patty" Shewmaker is a Nebraska native who graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point with a B.S. in political science, was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in Military Intelligence, and served seven years of active duty in the U.S. Army plus three years in the Georgia Army National Guard, deploying as commander of a counterintelligence company and receiving the Bronze Star Medal. She earned her J.D. with honors from Georgia State University College of Law. She maintains an active family law practice covering divorce litigation, custody modification, alimony, child support, contempt, legitimation and paternity actions, and specializes in dividing qualified retirement plans -- including FERS, military pensions, 401(k)s, and TSPs -- incident to divorce. She also handles cross-jurisdictional family law matters spanning multiple states and foreign countries.
